Today I will be answering the question that a lot of newbie ‘Techies’ ask which is ‘ How do I find my niche in the tech industry’?

It’s critical to understand that building your own tech niche entails identifying your abilities and devising a strategy for success. In this article, I’ll explain what a niche is and provide you step-by-step guidelines for identifying your specialization and introducing yourself to the industry.

A niche simply means a specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product, skill or service. Now the question remains, how do you find yours?

#1 Examine your interests and abilities

Whenever a puppy eyed newbie tells me they want to go into the tech industry, I always ask them what is your passion? What makes you happy? Have you carried out any research to find a tech path that interests you? These questions appear to be simple, but it makes a huge impact. Don’t just pick a niche because you are “sort of fascinated” by it; or because you’ve heard that people who work in that area get paid millions, it should ideally be something you can picture yourself being passionate about for at least a long while. Take some time to compile a list of activities you enjoy doing in your spare time, as your specialization will be a reflection of your interests and abilities.

#2 Narrow down your options

Start concentrating on the one choice which appears attainable and is also a prospective job choice from your list of interests and strengths. Keep in mind that establishing a new career usually entails a significant amount of time and work, so choose a specialization that you are enthusiastic about. It could be UI/UX, product management, programming, visual art, Cybersecurity, Cloud computing, Data analytics and data science.

#3 Research the industry and the competition

By searching online, asking questions, and reading online forums, you may learn about market demands for your target niche. Consider the supply and demand equation. Are there companies or specialists already providing the same service/product as your specialty, but there aren’t enough customers? Or are you attempting to locate a strong market in which your abilities would be competitive?

#4 Choose a lucrative niche

Money is essential Oh!!, and in this step, I recommend that you access your potential customers and determine if there is sufficient demand for your service or product to keep you in business for several years. Begin by posing the following questions to yourself: Is my target audience more likely to be found online or in person? What are the frustrations that my target audience have that I can help them with? Knowing the answers to these questions can help you avoid picking a niche with little demand and becoming disappointed.

Asking yourself these questions and honestly answering it, will help you pick a niche in the tech industry that not only makes you extremely happy, but also increases your pocket size (wink). Lastly, resolve within yourself to give it your all, over here you go big or go home.
